Dr. Sharon Inouye & HELP in the Wall Street Journal

In a new feature on post-operative delirium for the Wall Street Journal, the Hospital Elder Life Program's own Dr. Sharon Inouye shares the importance of the acute confusion and the impact that it can have on long-term outcomes. She specifically highlights that delirium is preventable, and she notes the wide uptake of the HELP program in more than 200 hospitals as a method to improve care for hospitalized older adults. Dr. Inouye also shares her expert opinion that during surgery, keeping exposure to anesthesia as short as possible is key, and cutting down on the number of psychoactive drugs used can help.
